4x4 Switch/Encoder motor bad

Recommended Posts

Here's a problem I ran into with 568 miles on my 06 Sierra Z-71, in case anyone has a similar problem. The 4x4 switch would work intermittently. Took it to the dealer who said they had a bulletin to reprogram the switch before putting new parts in. They reprogrammed it, and it worked for 5 more days. With 708 miles on it, it went out for good, all the time. The 4x4 High and Auto would just flash and stay in 2wd.

After an overnight stay this time, the dealership replaced the encoder motor (said it was shorted out) and found loose grounds. Probably the loose grounds were the main culprit.
