2WD with 5.3L V8???

Starting to look around for a 2001-2003, 1/2T extended cab 2WD with a 5.3l V8 and not having much luck.

Seems about the only 2WDs I see have the V6, were 2WD available with the 5.3?

Yes they were but 4x4's where the rage and few 2wd model showed up on lots unless they were order that way. (GM shipped al ot with V6's to keep up CAFE averages) I remember when it used to be the other way around long ago and 4x4's were scarce.

It is really geography specific. Here in TX, you will find a fair number of 2wd with the v8 to be sure.

If you live in a place with cold winters, chances are that 2wd trucks with V8s are gonna be pretty scarce. Here in Wisconsin, 90% of the trucks on the road are 4x4s. For the most part the 4x2s are stripped-down work trucks with V6s.

However, if you live in the south Id say your chances are far better.

Have you tried tell the dealers what you are looking for and maybe having them do a search for you?

IMO a V8 doesnt need 4.10s. V8s have enough lowend torque that you dont need to keep them spooled-up and 4.10s completely kill your highway fuel economy.

Ive 3.73s in my F-150 and thats plenty. I can load the bed full of firewood and it still wont lug the motor.

I love these, with no OD yes but with a .7 OD no it will not as in OD it has a effective overall ratio of 2.9 to 1 which is about ideal for the 5.3's power curve cruising in a heavy truck because it is not at its best below 3000 RPM (unlike the old 5.7) and it still take same power to move truck regardless of RPM so you balance engine efficency and RPM with load for best possible MPG, not tallest possible gear ratio. Some assume the taller gear equal better MPG all the time but a lot of times this is not the case. At 65 MPH 4.10 in OD would yeild about 2000 RPM and it would be about ideal and still pull hills well.

I live in BC where there is a mix of snow/rain/ and somewhat decent weather. It took forever to find my truck and I love not having 4x4. If I ever need the 4x4 we have a Subaru to get out in the snow.

FYI mine is 99' LS 1500 2WD with the 5.3 L

Why would you want to get a 2wd over a 4wd? The fuel economy cant be that much different between the two. Other than that, what is the advantage? I have 4wd on my suburban and it has helped a lot in the snow and mud.

I live in Michigan, we get some of the crappiest weather during the winter. I have never had a problem getting around in my 2wd sierra. I throw some sandbags in the back and i'm good to go. Having good tires at least on the rear and some extra weight with a posi rear end make all the difference in snow. Plus you can do better donuts in a 2wd...
