I have an '03 GMC 1500HD 4X4, do you know who manufactures the 9.25" IFS unit? It looks very simmilar to the American Axle Mfg. AAM 925.

That would be pretty likely since GM spun off AAM about 10 years ago. My 2500HD has an AAM 1050 rear axle.

Only AAM make them and a 9.25 will not bolt into a 1500 truck (unless it is a 1500HD) as the frame and mounting is quite different. It would be easier to convert it to a solid front axle than to try to put a 9.25 IFS drive axle in it.

Yes I did but it was for the benifit of other than micht consider the swap of the axle from a 1500HD to a 1500, it is not possible (I have never seen it done anyway because of design differences)

Great, so since it is an AAM 925, that means that I could get the cast iron housing that AAM shows on their site, and it would bolt right in. Does anyone know where or how they can be purchased?

Wait...a...minute...

How can you deduce from the above that the AAM925 cast-iron will bolt right in? The mounting could be totally different!

I saw on AAM's web site; http://www.aam.com/technology/tech_prod_dl_frontaxle.html

that they offer the AAM 925 as a cast iron 235mm independent, A cast iron 235mm salisbury, and a powerlite aluminum 235mm independent. Since I have the powerlite aluminum 235mm ind. why wouldn't the cast iron 235mm independent be a direct replacement? If it would fit, the added weight difference would be unsprung weight, and it would be much stronger. I would think it would handle my front E-Locker much better.

I think they offer these versions as OEM parts. They offer them to GM, Chrysler, etc., and not directly to retail customers.

Thanks, I will see if the dealer can get them and for how much. :seeya:
