If I swap out my 4.8 Vortec for a 6.0 Vortec and the engine does NOT come with a new pcm could I just take the pcm I already have and have a dealer program it like a 6.0? Can dealers do this? I would assume the computers arcitecture is the same for all full size GM trucks and that it is just the programming that is different.

The 4.3 L PCM wont work on a V8 you will have to get a new one along with the wireing and much more parts.

I don't have a 4.3 I have a 4.8. It is a V8 and virtually identical in build structure to the 5.3 and 6.0

OOOps sorry. I mis read. No the dealer cannot reprogram it since there isnt such an engine combo. You will have to check with a tuner and they can tell you if the 4.8 PCM can be used on the 6.0. Myself i dont think so. Regardless you will have to have acustom tune for a 1500 with a 2500 engine.

The PCM's are physically the same for the 1999-2000 models with the 4.8 and 6.0. 2001 and 2002 are the same and different again for 03. Custom tuning can change your 4.8 calibration to 6.0 and to put in your VIN.

Cool.

I would like a little more performance but don't really want to mess with the 4.8.... a 6.0 in a regular cab shortbox stepside would probably be a LOT of fun to drive... :):D
