Lux radio installed into a 2004 Sierra.

I have a 2004 Sierra Reg cab truck, and I am interested in installing a Lux radio (#15204335). Can this set up work? Since I do not have a lux version, or bose version set up. What can be done in order to make this work? Any help will be greatful. I am not interested in installing a cd changer neither, just the nav and an ipod adapter.

Then, all that I will need is a lux amp. Went on ebay, and as usual no luck. Which lux amp? I know there are several, by any chance, does anyone have a list of lux amps i can look up?

Alk, maybe I didn't read your orignal post carefully enough -- are you saying you don't have Bose? If so, that makes it tougher. Read this (post #20):

If you don't have Bose, then you don't even have an amp, and I assume Linda is suggesting that the amp wiring is not there either. The fact is though, it can still be done. You would just have a lot of head-unit-to-amp and amp-to-speakers wiring to do, and you would have to come up with the necessary connectors. One other question would be if the non-Bose speakers would work ok with a Bose amp.

 

If you scan through Linda's entire topic (it's long), you can learn a lot.

My radio option code is UBO. I do not have the bose set up or an amp. It can be done, with a lux amp, but with a lot of wiring.

I was speaking with someone from JP Customs, I can do the same with a non-lux nav system and purchase a seperate aftermarket amp to connect. However, their prices are way too high. If this is true, where can I find the right information for a non-lux set-up. Hopefully with stock numbers so I can look them up.

Here are the wiring schematics for a non-lux Bose system (03-06 of course). I noted the "must" connections for the head unit in green. I noted connections in blue you may or may not need for an aftermarket amp. You'll also need to hook up the GPS antenna and VSS wire (very easy -- described in the document from my previous post).

These are GM diagrams. It's easy to get confused by the number and letter designators. Just remember that a designator to the right of a connection specifies the connector and a designator to the left of a connection specifies the pin. The smaller dotted lines show groups of pins from the same connector.

 

There are 2 connectors (besides the GPS and radio antennae) on the back of a nav unit, "C1" and "C2". "C1" is a 24 pin and its pins are designated with a letter/number combination ("A2", "B7", etc.). "C2" is a 12 pin and its pins are only designated by letters (A-L).

 

For example, "Battery Positive Voltage" is pin "B1" on connector "C1" and "Cellular Telephone Voice Low Reference" is pin "L" on connector "C2".

 

As far as your existing wiring, I'm not familiar with UBO. The only non-Bose setups I know about are UQ3 and UQ5. If the UBO is the same as those, you have a 16 pin "C1" connector, and the power, ground and serial data are the same pins on "C1" as a nav unit (B1, A12 and A1 respectively).

 

I'd save these pics somewhere -- I don't know how long photobucket keeps them available.

one more question for those who know. I was talking to a tech advisor at delphi, and he told me I can use the TNR800 (NA40010) and that I will need to purchase a class 2 amp and that set up will work. Also, I won't have to rewire anything, and it will be a plug and play type of deal. He also told me that, I should have all of the wiring from the harness from factory. Even though, my factory radio is not using an amp. If this is true, please advise me, if not, advise me in the right direction. Because 99% of the nav radios in ebay are all lux radios.

I'd be surprised if you already have the wiring. Is he suggesting the amp wiring and connectors are just hanging around somewhere not connected to anything?

 

I had the bose non-lux system in my 03 burb, which had the non-lux (dumb) amp. The 2 connectors for that amp fit right into the lux amp, but even then, they aren't wired the same. I had to swap pins around according to the instructions in other posts here.

 

My bet is that you'll have to change the connectors that plug into your current radio to ones that will plug into the nav head unit and then come up with wiring and connectors to hook the amp up. Also, your current setup probably has the speakers connected to the radio, and with the lux setup you'll need them connected to the amp.

 

Realize that this is what you have now:

 

Vehicle <-> Radio -> Speakers

 

and this is what you would end up with

 

Vehicle <-> NavRadio -> Amp -> Speakers

 

Do your homework -- I think you should familiarize yourself in depth (every connection) of how your current system is wired up vs. how a lux system is wired up.

With your last comment, I made a phone call to a company that sells the tnr units and stated, that the tnr800 (na40010) can be used on the gmc and you dont have to have a class 2 amp. an aftermarket amp can do the job..

Which company did you contact? I have not been having too much luck finding a company other than delphi themselves.

    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.       
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.  
    • To me it honestly makes zero difference what filter you run. It's not a race engine, just a truck engine that's mostly bumming highways and it just needs a filter that filters oil.   The filter used to be a 7060 and the long version was a 7045. Now it's the newer updated filter that the K2XX trucks and newer run, the 100255 I believe if we are using napa numbers. Any of those filters is going to do the job.   I wouldn't overthink it, to me it makes no difference because those first filter numbers worked for 18+ years before the spec suddenly changed.
