Engine Surging/Missing at Highway Speed

Recommended Posts

33,800 miles on the odometer. I pull out on to 75N in cincy (extreme traffic) and as I'm picking up speed the truck starts to spit/sputter/surge at 2000rpm.

The tach jumped from 2000 to 2500 about 8 times before it stopped.

Question: What hell is that? Why is this truck doing this now?

I would think it would set a check engine light, wonder if it might be a bad plug or coil... water in the gas? sugar in the gas tank? plugged fuel filter? thats where I would start.

I'm baffled, no check engine light. As for the gas, I'm on 3/4th of a tank and use a locking gas cap. I'm headed to the dealer next Wednesday to have a few other items checked, guess I'll be adding this to the list.

Fuel filter might be a possible cause. But would the problem have went away like that? This was a 5 sec 2000-2500-2000-2500 rpm wham-wham-wham.

I don't think your truck has one.

really? Maybe not. All I know is it has a problem and it ticks me off :banghead: Trying to merge in traffic with a truck whose engine can't pick a speed is not what I call fun.
