Transmission grind??

Hey everyone. Need some help. 2000 Silverado, 5.3L, 4L60E, 2wd, 92k miles. Went to leave work tonight, truck backed out of space fine, pulled forward to exit parking lot, started to go and it just fell flat. Then just started going but with a horrendously load grinding noise. Pulled off street and everything was solid. Found driving home that over 20 mph it ran fine, till got to 40 and started to grind again so pulled it out of overdrive and sound went away. Resumed after each stop at stoplights. Got to highway and ran 65-70 w/o a problem in overdrive (slight humming noise, couldn't tell whether it was tires or mechanical). At home had wife go from PRND to DNRP and back again, over and over. The yoke is jumping quite a bit and normal drivetrain click/clunk going from P to D is noticeably louder. Pulled forward and backed up over and over while laying under and was definitely coming from rear yoke of transmission. Can't decide whether trans or u-joints. Transmission seems to shift just fine and normal, there is just a horrendous noise now emanating from 0-10 mph. Will replace u-joints tomorrow, sure hoping best case but does this sound familiar to anyone????

befor you change the joints pull out the shaft and look at it from what you said it soulds stripped. especialy since you said were it sounded like it came from. in the tailshaft yoke area.

 

hope fully it's just the u-joint but that deserves inspection befor buying parts.
