Ok guys, I know these things have been discussed in other topics and I have read them. I must be a little slow but what I have read seems to go all around never quite answering my question. If this is coverd somewhere else and I missed it please point me to the right place. With that said here I go.

Background: I have an 06 GMC Crew Cab. It is a pretty basic model. I have done a lot of fixing up on the truck and now I want to put a factory Touchscreen Nav/Radio in it. I know I do Not have the Bose system or the Y91/Y92 Package. I do not have XM or Onstar or anything. Pretty pathetic I know :shakehead:

Question: Is there anything I can do to get the Nav installed and working? I will have to buy a lux amp? If so will it even work in my truck? If the lux amp will actually work in my truck is that all I need to get the touchscreen working. Am I just crazy for trying this? If I am are there any double din touchscreen options that will fit where the factory radio once was.

In Every place on this forum that has touched on this topic that I have found the person asking has had the Bose system with no lux amp. I have found the Nav being sold on ebay and is being advertised as not needing the lux amp if so will this work for me?

Sorry about the long post.

Update: I did more looking and found another topic that talks about the amp and where to find it. It is found in the console right? I don't have a console so I probably don't even have an amp at all is that possible? I am not as dumb as I sound I promise.

Thanks.

I've had lots of experience with the lux and non-lux Bose systems, but don't know much about a non-Bose system. I read somewhere that the non-Bose does not have an amp, that is, the speakers are powered directly from the head unit. I would assume the speakers are different too. If this information is correct, you would have to get a matching head unit and amp (both have to be lux or non-lux) and actually make up the wiring yourself just like the wiring that comes with a Bose system (which is different for lux vs. non-lux). Then there's the unknown of whether or not the non-Bose speakers would work ok with the Bose amp.

Save yourself all this trouble and get an aftermarket unit. Their user-interface is better, they're higher quality, and they're much simpler to install.
