Hi guys

I am new on the GM world.

I own an Tahoe 1996 and the A/C compressor die.

Repair in the shop cost me like $1000. and repair myself I calculated

$400. some questions:

How hard is?

do I need special tools?( except vacuum pump and manifold)

I must to change the expantion valve and drier?

thank for every input

Andre.

it depends, are you still running R 12 freon, or are you r134a ? it will say on the compressor somwhere.

If its R134a You can charge it up yourself with cans from any auto parts store> You dont really need to vacuum it down, Ive done without that before. It cooled down as good as normal.

If its R12 you can charge it up with a Freon called HOT SHOT. it is a drop in replacement for it.

Otherwise do you know what caused it to break down? Is the compressor clutch bad, or do you have a leak? A totally empty system would cause Your compressor not to turn on.

Hi

Thanks for the info

I use 134a freon on my system.

and the problem is the compressor, it started leaking everywhere.

So I need to change it.

thanks again

Andre.
