Stock wheels and 285s

I'm considering bigger tires than the small, stock ones that are on my 2006 Silverado 2500hd 4wd. I've heard I can put 285/75-16s on my stock wheels, but that it isn't recommended (wheel should be wider). Problem is, some people say they had to tweak the torsion bars or trim some plastic in the wheel well area to prevent rubbing, and I do NOT want to do either if I can help it, due to accelerated wear on the suspension caused by the torsion bar tweak. I'd like to hear from people who have actually done this to their vehicle and what they HAD to do to make the tires fit with no rubbing (i.e., whether or not they had to tweak the t bars and/or trim plastic). If I have to do either, I'll probably go with a 265/75-16. Thanks for the help.

265 will fit with no problems or any adjustments required..............I would bet that 285 would fit just fine as well on a 2500hd................285's will fit on a 1500 with very little torsion adjustment needed...............

I've got 285s on my truck with no modifications. The rim is a little narrow so the tires will wear a little in the middle if you air them up to full inflation. If you don't haul loads, you could lower the pressure and get around it I bet.
