Performance Ideas

I have a 03 Sierra Ext. Cab z71 SLT with the 5.3 and 5 speed auto trans. I have put many accessories on it, and a few performance parts, and I'm not sure what else I can put on it to give it a little more go, without gettin too radicle. Right now I have a K&N Replacement filter, a magnaflow cat back dual rear exit exhaust, and superchip tuner, and have it running on 91 octane. I have heard that the throttle body spacers are crap, so I'm not goin with that. I was just wondering what else you guys would recommend as far as perforamce goes. I'm not really sure if I wanna go with headers, unless they make a brand that is just ya bolt on, and it bolts right up to your factory exhaust. So if I could get some ideas, I would appreciate it. THanks.

well to begin with, welcome to the forum.

First question, where did you get a 5 speed auto??? the 4l60e that is in your truck is a 4 speed, well honstly a 3 speed with an OD but, you have a 4 speed.

As for performance, a real PCM tune or preferably a live dyno tune would be the next logical step. these tunes such as westers or wait4me are miles ahead of the superchips since they are designed specifically for your mods and your preferences and the live dyno tune is even better. but yes there are shorty headers out there that bolt right up. but in my opinion if you are gonna do headers than go with a long tube like a dynatech supermax system that replaces the manifolds with long tube headers and the cats with high flow versions and bolts right to the stock exhaust system.

tyberne has 80mm throttle bodys, should be cheap and easy. You could also get a mass air sensor, but im not sure how those workout. If you got both of those you might need bigger fuel injectors. Ive been drinking so I'll make more sense on this tommorrow. But them two should be quick and easy. Wont help fuel mileage tho.

Now would these tuners override the superchip tuner, or just add to it? I don't know if I like the thought that I wasted $400. I don't think I'd really want to get into the throttle body replacement, as this is my everday driver and don't want to get horrible gas mileage. The long tube headers though, do they come already with the cat's or is that another piece that you have to buy?? I already have the magnaflow exhaust, so I wouldn't be bolting it up to a stock exhaust, but I would still want the headers and cat to be able to bolt up to that, because it is located the same as the stock exhaust.

I have the dynatechs and yes they do come with the cats to mount right up to the stock locations where either stock or aftermarket fittup would be fine. Mine has an edelbrock catback single tube using the Dynatech stainless headers. That is a lot of money to spend where I didn't notice a huge effect. It would hold gear a bit longer when towing. I don't have any reason to drag race a 4x4 so I cant give you any improvement times there. I have yet to get a tune. Everything I've read says that's the ticket but right now the extra money is going to dirtbike parts.
