New 2007 GMC 2500HD Duramax Questions

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the boards and just last week picked up a new 2007 GMC Sierra Classic 2500HD with Duramax and have a few questions....

First off I am having a hard time finding accessories for this truck, is the 2007 Sierra Classic the same truck as the 2006? I am assuming it is but you never know and I am not wanting to start forking out cash for parts that wont fit.

Second thing, where is a good place online to get accessories? I am looking to get some bed rail protectors, and door sill protectors but the only place I can find decent ones is from GM itself (www.gmgoodwrench.com).

Third thing, and my #1 thing is that this truck came with Power Adjustable, Power Folding mirrors, I could care less about the power folding part but I need some good tow mirrors. Right now I have lame clip on ones, I know that GM sells manual extending power camper mirrors, do these extend out enough for a travel trailer? Is there such a thing as power extending mirrors? Any help would be great.

Fourth thing.... on these GM stereo's is there a way to hook up an ipod to them?

Last thing, I noticed while out in the dunes last weekend that while in 4x4 when the truck was looking for traction in 4lo it the wheels would studder and shutter around.. kind of a hopping action... hard to explain, i have seen other trucks do it, just curious what it was..... my tundra never did it, also when not in 4x4 i noticed it did it in low traction areas as well, I am assuming that was the auto rear locking diff, but when in 4lo it is the front wheels making all the racket.

I know lots of info but any guidence could would be great since this is my first GM truck, or even big 3 truck (owned 3 tundras needed a diesel).

On your first question...Yes,Your '07 "Classic" is the same as an '06.

Second question,Just buy the GM bed-rail protectors and step-shields.

Third question,The manual extending camper mirrors GM has should extend out far enough for a travel trailer but it depends on how far you need them to extend,Hopefully someone else can give you there personal experience with these mirrors.

I have a buddy with an '05 2500HD DMAX that had the same mirrors as yours and we installed a set of the "new-for-'06" power camper mirrors and he loves them whenever he pulls his box trailer, unfortunetly I don't know how wide his trailer is but the mirrors do extend out far enough for him to see around the sides.

GM had power-extending camper mirrors available as an option from '03 to '05 but they were not the best design, they had no convex glass section and didn't offer much in visability as far as heigth-wise goes, also the motors that extended them out/in go bad quite often,we changed quite a few under warranty at the dealership.

Fourth question,I have no idea,I don't own an I-pod (Heck I don't even have a cell phone or DVD player either! :troll: )

Can't help much with your last question either,I've never really noticed that with any of my trucks before (And I've had 8 4x4s over the last 16 years)

Unless your talking about wheel hop that happens when your in 4wd on dry pavement and have your steering wheel turned to one side all the way, thats normal for a 4wd and why you shouldn't have it in 4wd on dry pavement.

And yes the rear will do that also in 2wd with the locking diff.

For great trailer mirrors, it's pretty hard to beat the GM ones. You might be able to negotiate a trade with someone or have your dealer help you get the OEM ones. All of the proper wiring should be in your doors, so they should be pretty much plug-n-play.

Actually, in my local area (Portland, Oregon), it's just about impossible to find a 2500HD Duramax without the fabulous new GM trailer mirrors. I have them and absolutely love them.

I had the power camper mirrors on my 2005 1500HD and loved them. I drive tractor-trailer and know for a fact that you will get plenty of visibility from them. See if you can find some on ebay. :seeya:

Now when you say power mirrors you are talking about the manual extending power adjustable tow mirrors correct? not power extending right? And are you refering to the GM Brand ones?

    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
    • To me it honestly makes zero difference what filter you run. It's not a race engine, just a truck engine that's mostly bumming highways and it just needs a filter that filters oil.   The filter used to be a 7060 and the long version was a 7045. Now it's the newer updated filter that the K2XX trucks and newer run, the 100255 I believe if we are using napa numbers. Any of those filters is going to do the job.   I wouldn't overthink it, to me it makes no difference because those first filter numbers worked for 18+ years before the spec suddenly changed.
