I have a 2005 GMC 2500HD Durmax with about 37k on it. Recently the speedometer started to act up. When you turn the truck on and even when you turn it off the guage is stuck at a higher MPH such as 80 and the needle will only travel between that mark and 120+ areas...does anyone have idea what is wrong or what I can do it fix the problem?? Thanks

You need a replacement cluster. Very common problem. The cluster will have to be sent out for repair or exchange... most likely the latter.

Before you even ask... No, there is nothing you can do to fix it yourself though you may be able to find some company on the web that has jumped on this bandwagon and repairs them for a reasonable price, but thats just a guess. Also, I have no idea what this will cost you... probably a couple hundred bucks.

BTW, since this is an '05 that's just barely out of warranty and it's a known, common problem, maybe your dealer will help you out and goodwill a warranty repair. Go in and sweet talk 'em and see what you can get. Go to the place where you bought it and hopefully, you've spent a few bucks in service. That always helps.

I apprecaite the response. Do you have any idea what a job like this usually runs? I was quoted around 300.00 over the phone. Thats about 190 for the cluster plus labor. Does that sound about right? Thanks again.

edit: Forget it...saw that you said you weren't sure about much it cost!
