changing out 700r4 4x4 to a non 4x4 tranny

i have a 1988 chevy 4x4 with a 700r4 trans that 3rd gear and od went out and wanted to change that 700r4 with a 700r4 out of a two wheel drive(1989 camero).i know the driveshaft is going to be to short now because of the tranfer case. can anyone tell me if the splines on the new tranny are different? or any info on this would be great help to me thanks...
