Has anyone ever purchased anything from Mr Tail Light.com in particular the kit for the 4 headlight mod. Using this kit seems pretty easy even for an electrical idiot like me. Or do any of the vendors on here have the same kit? Thanks for any help.

I installed their 4 light mod in my truck over a year ago. Still works great. All necessary parts were included and easy to follow instructions. A-1 seller in my opinion.

I bought their 4 high kit and it works perfectly. Take the plunge; you won't regret it.

Thanks for the input...they have it priced right now at $8.99 but you have to pay like $12.00 for shipping...oh well not to bad. So is this pretty easy to install, like I said I am not very handy in the electrical department? By using this kit does it require cutting wires or anything like that? Thanks again!

I bought the kit, but haven't yet had a chace to put it in.

Looks like top quality hardware.

They did loose the pictures on their web-site detailing the installation. They said they lost them when they upgraded servers.

I asked them a few questions about the quality of the kit and this is what they replied:

"No complaints at all and out kit is completely assembled UNLIKE Painless.

These kits are soldered and heat shrunk and no-ox is used in the relay

system to keep corrosion from happening. We have never had a complaint on

quality and have had many compliments on the kit. "

Anyone have a picture of where the relay is mounted? The rest of the installation is pretty straight-forward.

I just wired up my own to do the same thing. It took 2 packs (cost about 0.60 for each pack) of diodes from Radio shack and some wire to do the same mod, but I made mine turn on the following:

When Low Beams are on, it turns on the Daylight Running Lights and the Fog Lights.

When the High beams are on it turns on the Low Beams, Daylight Running Lights, and the Fog Lights.

I also put the Silverstar bulbs in the Highs, Lows and Fogs, you wanna talk about bright. It is like daytime if you flip it to the Highbeams.

As to the relays, they are under the black plastic cover just behind the battery on the drivers side, at least on my 03 Suburban.

On mine all you have to do is tie the wire with the diode to pin 85, which is marked on the bottom of the relay to the pin 85 you want to control. Just make sure the line is going the correct way on the diode, if this is what he used in his kit.

I just looked at their website and read the directions, it looks alot harder than just wiring your own up, using the diodes and tying them under the Relays.

I didn't solder my wires the the relays, but wrapped them around the 85 pin, then I put solder on the actual wire, but made it was that it held the wire loop nice and tight on the pin. I then can remove it at any time, If I ever wanted to.

It only cost about $2 from Radioshack for the parts, and less time to solder the wires together than it sounds like installing that kit will take. You have to drill and strip wires back on their kit, that sounds much harder to me than to put 1 new wire on, for what that kit does.

all you need to do, is go to Radio Shack and get the diodes, the part number was 1N4001, http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.js...rentPage=search

Solder a wire to the side of this diode with the Strip on it and on the other lead. Then tie the side without the strip on it to Pin 85 on the High Beam Relay. Then tie the other wire to the Relay for the Low Beams pin 85, and bam it works fine.

I did find out that you to make it work with all the other lights as I did, you can't do diode to diode or they cancel each other out.

To me this is like a 2 minute job, once you solder your wires onto the diode. Then its a matter of wrapping the wires around the correct pins on the bottom of the Relay and presto, it works.

Just for others information.

I think you looked at the wrong instructions because for my make and model there was no mention of any stripping or drilling. Thanks for the info though.

Funny, I have yet to read a positive thread regarding MrTaillight.com until I saw this thread.

I know a few website have nice how-tos to do this yourself.

Well this concerns me since I have already placed an order.

Kssooner,

I am sorry, I was reading the directions for my 2003 Suburban, instead of for your 2000 Truck.

Still thought this was alot of work, compared to putting 2 wires onto the leads of a diode and then tying them into the Pin 85 on the 2 relays or any relay you wish to control for that matter.

I was just surprised. I hope that it works out for you, if not call your CC company and do a chargeback and find out what you need to do it on that 2000 truck by yourself, its really easy.

I know there is some information also on fullsizechevy dot com. I think they had better information on this mod, like all what you had to do, and other ways to do it and this and that. I just took the simplest, for the heck of it. This way its removable at any time also. I could also put a switch in it, if I wished in the future to make it do more or less.

No problem I figured you just clicked on the wrong directions. I am going to give this kit a shot and if it doesnt work or I dont get it I will be contacting you for more detailed instructions about how you did it. Thanks again

All you need to do on 99-02 models is to remove both headlamps and splice into the yellow wire going to the low beams and hook to a suitable ground.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
