i have a 2000 gmc 1500 and a sirius radio. can i install the power line to something other then a cigerette lighter hole???? if i could hard wire it somewhere, not only would it hide the wire better, it would also turn on and off with the truck.....since the cig lighters have constant power i would have to remember to turn off the radio evey time i turned off the truck.

does that mean i have to take the radio out??? is that just taken out a few screws and pulling it out? a prob i see with that is that the cord isnt very long....its the one that clips to the visor and to get it to the cig lighter and have it run behind the molding on the side of the windsheild so its hidden i have to stretch it across the speedo and steering column. is there something in/near the fuse box?

When I did mine, I mounted the reciever to the dash and ran the power wire back behind the panel for the cig. lighter. Then I just tapped into the cig. lighter wires for power and ground. Its pretty easy

so dou you have to tunr your radio off seperatly from the truck? mine cig. lighteres are always getting power.

mattd, go to this forum: http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum/index.php

Look at the threads in the "Install Garage". The best way to go about hardwiring a Sirius unit is to purchase an "Add-a-Circuit" from Autozone or another parts store. Then purchase an accessory outlet at Radio Shack and connect it to the "Add-a-Circuit". If you take this route you won't void any warranties and it works great. Just search in the forums listed above for "Add-a-Circuit" or "hardwire" and you'll get all of the information you need.

You might want to put a voltage meter across the plug on that power adapter before you just hard wire it into a +12Vdc power source. I am almost certain that on the XM Roady XT, for example, the lighter plug adapter reduces the power to +6Vdc.

Hardwiring a +6Vdc circuit into a +12Vdc power feed might be a bad idea. ;)
