Oil Fill Question - Full or not?

38,000 miles on the truck.

 

I changed oil and filter last night. Put six quarts in and dipstick only showing oil in mid section of cross hatch. Normally shows 1/8 inch above cross hatch. Checked the ground after driving forward and reverse. No leaks, etc.

 

Anyone have any ideas?

 

This has never happened before and I double checked the manual to make sure I had not yet gone crazy.

Yep, I just changed the oil in my 5.3L with 6 quarts and it only shows 4 out of 5 dots filled.

That had never happened to me before. Seems strange as can be but as long as it isn't leaking and I know its in there I guess I should be to worried.

were you on a flat surface? Did you switch Filter sizes? Mine came from the factory with a long filter and the auto parts store always gives me a short one, Maybe 4.5 inches long or so instead of about 8"
