Truck is a 07 Silverado Crew Cab with a 5.3. (1800 miles)

Under normal take off when the truck shifts from second to third sometimes I hear a noise sounds like a clunk. It does not do it every time but only does it under easy accelleration. Any Ideas??? Might help to know where to have the Dealer look when I take it to them cause something is not right it did not do it before today....

Some vehicles may exhibit a clunk noise that can be heard on a 2-3 upshift or a 3-2 downshift.

During a 2-3 upshift, the 2-4 band is released and the 3-4 clutch is applied. The timing of this shift can cause a momentary torque reversal of the output shaft that results in a clunk noise. This same torque reversal can also occur on a 3-2 downshift when the 3-4 clutch is released and the 2-4 band applied. This condition may be worse on a 4-wheel drive vehicle due to the additional tolerances in the transfer case.

This is a normal condition. No repairs should be attempted.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

Is there any chance that this could cause pre mature wear on the trans?

Seems like they could have a fix for it after all a $30,000 + truck should not clunk when it shifts.. Sorry but that is a little rant but it's JMO...

Should I take it to the dealer and have it documented that I have this problem just in case later on after the warranty is up there will be a record of already having this problem. You know the cover your ass thing... LOL

Thanks for the reply. I will have to print that off so I will have a record of it.

sure, wouldn't hurt to document it.

Thanks for your help...

One more question on Synthetic oil

When changing to a synthetic do I have to stay with what everbrand I put in it the first time or can I change it to another brand later if I choose to? Does not sound right to me but I was told that I would have to stick with the same brand every time.

FYI, my 99 & 2002 Suburban's 4L60 transmissions both clunked on the 2nd to 3rd shift range especially while slowing to turn a corner without coming to a complete stop..............normal noise. Both vehicles went over 100k with no trans issues. My 06 is AWD and doesn't do it.
