Question

Hi,

Can you tell me where to start finding this problem?

2003 suburban 2500 4wd 8.1L

1)instrument cluster analog gauge all do not work. guage lights work fine. DIC works fine.

2) turn truck on and off several times no change

3) three days later start truck is cranks slow like dead battery but fires within 1 second and all guages work fine!

So could there be a short that is taking key-off power from the battery causing a drain in three days resulting in hard cranking? But why are my guages working now? Any ideas???

Thanks!

Just remembered relative has a scanner so going to pull the code(s) tomorrow AM before take it to the dealer. Anybody know what code(s) represent the IPC inoperative condition?

Gauges on my 03 Yukon stopped working tonight for no apparent reason (warm start, battery is less than 6 mos old) so guess it's off to the dealer for this problem.

Thanks for the info GM-Tech!

Subject: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Gauges Inoperative (Reprogram IPC) #03-08-49-020 - (11/19/2003)

Models: 2003 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT

2003 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe

Condition

Some customers may comment that upon vehicle start-up, all instrument panel cluster gauges are inoperative.

Cause

During a cold start or low battery condition, a low voltage condition may cause gauges to freeze during crank cycle.

Correction

Important: DO NOT REPLACE the following clusters unless a reprogram does not correct this condition.

A new service calibration has been released to correct this condition. Reprogram the IPC using the new service calibration, which was available from Techline starting November 3, 2003 on the TIS2000 version 11.5 or later. This calibration is an electronic calibration and is not available from GMSPO.

So, checked the IPC fuse just in case and it looked fine. Got in the truck immediately after to go pull the codes and the IPC was working.

Put the scanner on it anyway and it registered no codes.

GM-Tech,

Thank You for your time.  You are most helpful.

last week I had my cluster stop working after a High Pressure under wash, The same conditions as above, The service tech told me that this must have caused a fault, Needless to say they re-programmed the cluster which cured the problem, $ 200.00 $ later.
