I have been wondering the same thing.... I would really like to throw a cam in the HD (and the Trailblazer SS for that matter :P ). If you have any local 'speed shops' around that do custom work, call them and get a custom cam spec'ed out. A good shop can spec a cam that is designed for your needs (towing, etc.).

I work at a performance shop and decided to take the dive. 03' gmc 2500HD crew 4x4 with 59k on the clock. I went with a Comp custom grind. Comp makes 3 or 4 off the shelf grinds, but after talking with other tuners they were deemed a waste of money. For a truck this heavy something a little more radical was needed. Hence the custom grind. The supporting mods done were heavier valve springs and retainers (also from comp). There was a AEM Brute force intake and 4" single-out-side magnaflow catback. I contacted Brian at PCM FOR LESS in PA for their custom 93 octane mail order tune. We have ordered PCM's form Brian before, but this was the first truck tune. HELLO!! :banghead: What a night and day difference. Big wake up call at 3000 to redline. The rev limit was bumped to 6000. It tears through the tach for a over weight tuna boat. In the upper RPM's it sounds like a F- Body LS1. The funny part was I went on a 1500 mile road trip just after the cam and tune and picked up 3mpg on the highway. I'm not a fast driver(espically with the 4:11's) but this is changing my habits. Around town manners are great. No rough idle, but if you listen you can tell there is something there. PCM claims the setup should be good for aprox 360 Wheel HP. A huge jump from a 230 wheel HP stock 6.0 HD I have driven my friends 8.1 crew and I will easily be able to run away. Well worth the money.

I've been hemming and hawing about doing a cam install, but out here in sunny California we have biannual smog inspections. I'd like to put some more power to the ground, but I just don't want to go the turbo / supercharger route on a stock engine. There must be a way to power out of the 6.0, the Vettes and Trailblazer SS's can get 400hp. Maybe there's hope for us guys in the smog states.

Could you share the specs of that cam? Would really like to do something like this. Are you still running the stock converter?
