Hanging idle

I have a 4.8 V-8 with the manual tranny and when I let off the gas the RPM's don't drop as quickly as you would think they would consider I took my foot completely off the gas. The linkage and cable on the throttle don't bind and snap closed when released. Is this the nature of the beast or is there something else I should be looking at?

Thanks,

Patrick

I bet you throttle body is dirty. Barring that it may be IAC related.

I've cleaned the throttle a few months ago but all I did was spray throttle body cleaner in it until it was pouring out the front of the throttle body. It was filthy so maybe I"ll have to hit again. Where is the IAC (intake air _____?) valve at?

The IAC is the Idle Air Controller. It is a little round module on the side of the throttle body with a couple of wires going to it. It may be dirty. I had the same issue with my '98 S-10 with the 4.3L and 5 spd tranny. It seemed worse when the A/C was on. It would hang around 1200 rpm and then slowly decrease. I drove it for 95,000 miles like that. I just got used to it. It did it since new so I didn't think anything of it. Made it really hard to drive 15mph through school crossings, though. :)

You probably don't have any slow kids left in your neighborhood. I'll clean the throttle body again and yank the IAC and clean it up as well.

Thanks for the help...
