Right now I have a 04 burb with 17 x 265 revo's love the tires but have a deal on new yocohoma geolanders, I can get them in 285 or 265 and im going back to 16 in wheels. Might go with 10 inch wide wheels also. What do all you all know or think about this combo ?

Is there a hight diff in a 16 in tire and a 17in ? like is a 265 16 bigger or smaller then a 265 17 ?

Sorry for all the questions, dont want to get um and find they hit and rub.

Another question how much taller is a 285 over a 265

265 is 265, if you're going by metric (standard). That's a constant. What we need, however, is the sidewall ratio to determine height. If you put the same ratio tire on different sized rims (i.e. 265/70/17 and 265/70/16), then even though the sidewalls are the same height the 17" will have 1" more rim thus increasing overall tire diameter by 1".

To answer a couple of your questions, I had the 285 75 R 16 geolander II on a 94 K-2500. They are a nice tire, I first installed them on stock 6.5" rims, what I found was I could not get enough air pressure in the tires, while running them at 40 psi I could not get enough tread on the ground, deflating them to 35 psi the tread started to feather and cup and it made it wonder all over the road.

I then bought American Racing 8"X16" wheels model 058 with a negative off set, they rubbed on the front of the inner fender and stuck out past the fenders. I was lucky that the wheel dealer took them back and exchanged them for 8"X16" model 059 with a positive off set. The 8" wide rims worked great and the side wall was flush with the wheel well molding.

I would think that 10" rims would have your tires sticking out beyong the fenders and fender flares would need to be installed.

I have 285's on my Silverado on a 16x8 inch rim. I think if you put 10 inch rims on, you would have some pretty serious rubbing issues. I know mine don't rub, but are kinda close. 10's would not work on my truck.

So if I understand this right, then if I compared a 285 70 16 and a 285 70 17 the 16inch combo would be a total of 1 in shorter then the 17 in combo ?

I know this is being a pain but my concern is this.

I now have 265 70 17 and I want to go to the 285 16. Im conserned that the 285 which are close to 33in will not make my truck slower off the line as the bigger tire will be harder to turn.

By increasing the tire size you will lose performance, plus you should get your PCM reprogrammed for the new tire size, otherwise your speedo, ABS, shifting will all be affected. 10" rims on a stock (vs lifted) truck will definitely cause some clearance issues. 285's work well on 8" wide rims, with 4.5 to 5" of backspace.
