Oil Prefrence? Good or bad choice?

Hello, I just thought I would see what everyone thought about my oil prefrence. I have about 85,000 miles on my 2000 Silverado. I religously change my oil every 3000 miles. I use 5 quarts of Castrol GTX along with 1 quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer, also I always use the OEM, AC Delco, oil filter.

I think 3000 mile oil changes are good. I myself change it by 4 months if I don't put 3000 on in that time. Good choice for oil filter. I use either AC Delco or Purolator. What is the Lucas Oil Stabilizer for?

I do pretty much the same thing but I take it to 5000. The on board computer for the oil change is usually around 30-35% at the 5k. Do you use 5/30 or 10/30? I also use the PF59 AC Delco filter (a little taller, same mounting).

I use M1 full synthetic and AC Delco filters and change at approximately 7,500 miles. The DIC in my truck suggests oil changes at ~8,000 miles.

those of you not changing your oil at 3000 miles don't you risk voiding any kind of warranty doing that? I use mobil 1 full synthetic but change every 3000 miles, am I just wasting my money?

How can you void the warranty if you follow the manufactures Oil Life Monitor

The OLM in my truck just came on at 8,000 miles.

I don't know maybe I am just paranoid but I don't wait for lights to come on to do preventative maintenance.

 

Ok I just did a search and I guess it does not void any warranty. I just have been changing my oil every 3000 miles in my various cars for the past 12 years it just doesn't feel right to not to.

 

Actually it looks like I will save money by waiting longer and help save the environment by draining less oil a year.

1993 Silverado with 232,000 miles OCI of 7,000 to 15,000(life of oil filter) using Wal-mart 10-30 full synthetic and yes i'm the original owner.

 

1999 Mazda Protege with 105,000 miles OCI of 7,000-10,000(my motorcycle has a bigger filter than this car does) using same stuff above.

 

1987 Mazda B2000 pickup with 320,000 miles OCI of 7,000 to 15,000 using Mobil One 15w-50 and yes I was the orginal owner until someone ran a stop sign on me(Nov.29,1998) and crushed it. I would still be driving it today if that hadn't happened.

With engine technology today and the oil's being better( Dino,and Synthetic) when we change oil is just a personal preference as to what makes you feel comfortable, I'm an ole fart and have been changing oil at 3000 miles for years, and I have been using Mobil-1 for about 11 yrs, and still change it at 3000, when I got the T.B. when I changed to M-1, I thought I'll change at 5000, well I did, but in my mind I felt bad, now I'm back to the 3000 change on everything, am I wasteing money, probably, but my oil is black (dirty) so I change it, I use either ac or Napa gold (wix) filters. The thing that bothers me is when I get to old to change my own oil, I have never paid anybody to change my oil, and I don't really trust quicky lube joints. my .02.

Unless you have documentation then the rest is pure luck, since you have no UOA's to back up your claim. Maybe you ought to go to Vegas but I won't flip a coin on oil changes. Blackstone and the OLM tells me the proper intervals.
