Holy cow! well. ummm.. - there's a "friend of mine" with a 2002 Tahoe that was doing donuts & had this happen.. I read about a recall on the '06 Tahoes regarding a defective pressure hose which should be replaced for certain date codes.. Might be a stretch to assume the bad hoses go back that far, though...?????

Sounds like you broke the shaft for the P.S. pump. It can happen under those conditions. It's not that uncommon.

Take the belt off and see if you can pull the P.S. pulley out from the pump. It should not move at all but if broken, will slide right out. You'll need a new pump if this is the probem.

FYI -

Broken shaft on my friend's Tahoe..!! $800 at the local dealer to repair.. (includes a tranny flush & oil change, I believe) Accurate assessment, GM-Tech.....!! Way to go..! Just wish I coulda helped them out, as I don't think it looked like an $800 job... oops - $700 job....

Any idea what the book hours is, and what "real" hours would be for a fairly skilled garage monkey (like me)...???

Thx -

No idea what the book pays, but I can't imgine it taking more than an hour to an hour and a half to replace the pump. I don't know what the pump costs, but $700 for the job sounds high to me.
