I know, its a stupid long URL, but it shows what i'm looking at and considering...

In my 2000 Sierra i went with a cheaper, generic blue filter and metal box... which i must admit, i've been happy as can be with it.

For the 05 Silverado 5.3L howveer... i'm wondering if a name brand air intake with worth the extra bucks...

My goal is better gas mileage, not torque or horse power...

Anyone got ideas, suggestions, ect

Save your money they will not help improve gas mileage

I bought a K&N FIPK for my fiancee`'s '99 Jimmy. I like it, the engine revs freer and it sounds cool. No noticable power increase, however, because I didn't do any exhaust work or engine work to really utilize it.

That being said, if you're going to get one, make your own. It's not really worth the big bucks. The main things to remember are to make sure you have NO sharp bends, and make sure the filter is sealed off from the engine bay. Otherwise...No they're not worth the big bucks.

Just go for a intake tube that is less restrictive, the factory ones are built to reduce sound and make room for other crap. The 99-06s have huge indentions in them for the fan shrouds.

and rebuild that straw they have the stock airbox sucking through, it is sad how little air these trucks actually get

I got the Volant cold air intake kit with the ram air option. I didn't notice much improvement until I got the MagaFlow cat-back exhaust too. Now totally happy and easilty get 1.6-2.1 mpg improvement and the best sound ever. It's not cheap, but the quality is superb !!!

+1 for the Volant with the scoop. my only real complaint with mine was i didn't get instructions, and the instructions on their site where vague with out pictures. I actually thought i was missing something... Then as I was getting ready to uninstall it, i noticed that i could remove the gasket on the MAF and that would bolt to the CAI box.

I can't say it dramatically improved anything, but it added a nice sound, Looks pretty cool under the hood, and I would recommend it. I know on my old 98 with the 5.7 there where tons of cheap options. Not so much for the 02 with the 5.3.

There are allot of of people here using the truflow stuff with great results, and openers the replacement tube should do good things, its bigger and doesn't have the reservoirs. It is also smoother on the inside and less restrictive. Go for it, worse case, you sell it.

As for better gas mileage, which is what you are really asking about/for. the best bang for your buck is getting a custom tune from some one like wait4me or westers. I have a westers, and I know tbryne motor-sports was doing a GP on them, again I recommend it.

Only if have a less restrictive exhaust then it could help improve Milage. But you will have to drive many miles to save the $200+ dollars for the intake alone if thats what you looking for:). With my functional ram air hood, K&N Ram Air kit and Gibson exhaust I went up 2-3 MPG.....if you have a heavy foot then nothing will help you save mpg. :withstupid:
