5.3 Liter Flowmaster 40 Series

Today I had my OEM muffler swapped with the Flowmaster 40 Series. 2.5 inlet/outlet. Single inlet, single exit.

I have to say, I like the sound, but it's really NOT loud. At idle it sounds just as quiet as stock. I have my stock pipes, everything stock except the muffler.

What should I do to make the 40 sound like it should? Should I dump it or what?

if you dont have to worry about emissions then i would delete the Cats.

get true duals and you will notice a difference in sound.

get headers and it will be louder.

ditto, i recently just purchased a flowmaster 40 series and its not loud at all, i wanted a good deep throaty sound while idling but i only get that when i accelerate, what are some other things that can be done to achieve this???

I think i know what kind of sound you want from your FM 40's. I myself have the same mufflers in a true dual setup that is dumped right before the axle and it has a deep rumble when i start it up and is idling. It also sounds great when i rev it up. I love the way my exhaust sounds man it.

Yeah, the sound is great. About a week ago I chopped off my old pipe and setup a 3" dump, that did the trick. It's pretty loud now. :shakehead:

your getting less air flowing through a bigger space, make the space smaller and it will feel like more air was flowing through.

smaller diameter pipe would do it. ( to make it louder)

do you have duals?

im running 2.5" True Duals off my 454, but i have some FM 40's on order right now, i will let you know how they work once i get them installed.
