Ok so I am using the factory keyless entry syaytem to activate my remote start, but I have noticed that when its cold out my remotes donty work for jack. It seems that if the temp drops below 50 or so my remotes hardly ever work. I have replaced both the batteries in both remotes and they both act up so im guessing the cause is in the truck, since the keys are in the 74 degree house. I have taken the remotes apart and cleaned the contacts. Anybody got any ideas, this really sucks having a remote start to warm up the truck, but yet it doesnt work. Is there an antenna for the keyless entry cause even when it works im lucky to be more than 50 feet away and have it work.

Could there be any other systems in your house or a surrounding building, etc. that might be operating only when it's cold out and that one of these systems might be operating on the same frequency as your remotes? Do you remotes work properly when you are in another place? I live in the Boston area and I have not noticed a change in the range of my remotes on my truck (an 05 model). However my Saab remotes are effective at ten feet or less (also a 2000 model). The Saab is in the driveway, very close to the house. The truck is down the street in a rented space. Just a thought....

Most of these systems are really only effective up to about 20-30 feet away. If you're getting 50 feet then you're doing quite well and I'd say your system is working flawlessly.

 

Edit: there have been times when mine doesn't want to work when I'm standing right next to the car...

Well i first noticed the problem when I went out snow skiing a couple years ago, it was in the high 30's and wse were saying in a remote cabin, since then I notice it all the time when the temp drops, doesnt seem any better in different areas.

 

Wheres the antenna for this maybe I can re route, extend whatever.

Hold the remote to the underside of your chin and try it. No, I am not crazy and have no scientific data to back this up, but it works.

Holding it to your chin grounds it to you and since you are made of mostly water you turn into a big antenna.

I have tried that, and it has worked for me on previous vehicles, but not my truck, when it works normally this helps the range, but when it doesnt work normally this doesnt help, i can be standing at the drivers door and it wont work. i have tried the re-sync to that didnt seem to help either.

It can't ground it to you. grounding requires electrical contact, plastic case is insulating the circuitboard from you. what happens is it turns your mouth into a "cannon" for the signal. doesn't greatly enhance range but it does effect it enough to gain a bit.

it works, i've even read it in a aftermarket remote start manual once.

but you do get some strange looks walking around the parking lot with your remote uder your chin and your mouth open.

I wonder if it is the chin thing, because it does work or the fact that you are now holding the transmitter (antenna) at a different angle.

Under the chin is the only place that I have found that works. Admittedly I have not tried the underside of my sack, but only because that would just be silly. :D

      You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
