Regular to Synthetic transition

Are there any steps I need to go through when I go from a regular oil (Castrol GTX 10W-40) to Mobile 1? I plan on doing that at my next oil change. Right now I change my oil every 3000. I am thinking that I will use Mobile 1 and then maybe go to a 4500 or 5000 mile interval or Oil Life Monitor... which ever comes first.

Synthetic is a good idea but i would stick to the 3000 mile marker, it just makes me feel better and more peace of mind, i always try to get as close to the 3000 as i can.

Sure there's steps to complete:

1. drain old oil, replace old oil filter

2. refill with Mobile 1

 

and you're done! As for how long, some say you can go 10k miles, but with synthetic I try to stick to around 5k, especially since I usually end up going back to dyno oil afterwards because I only use it on cross-country treks. Oh, and if anyone ever tells you you can't go back to dyno oil after switching to synthetic, they're full of s**t.
