difference between gmt900 5.3L and 5.3L-E85 engines

Exactly what is the difference? There is no price difference. I was looking for a E85 silverado, but I found what I wanted without flex fuel and made the purchase. There are several E85 pumps in my area and I was wondering if anyone can answer my question?

You cannot use E85 unless specified by the manufacturer for a number of reasons.

 

1. Your check engine light will come on

2. The alcohol in E85 is more corrosive than unleaded and requires an upgraded fuel system including a lot of stainless steel pieces.

3. E85 is not as efficient as unleaded and therefore the higher the ethanol content the more volume of fuel is needed to run efficiently. i.e. E85 is cheaper per gallon than unleaded gas, but the MPG with E85 is less than with regular gas.

4. E85 vehicles can calculate ethanol content and adjust fuel injector pulses to compensate.
