5.9 Ford vs. 5.3 SIlverado

My friend just bought a I think a 1999 Ford F150 Lariet edition, it has a 360 5.9 motor in it, everythign stock on it, I have a 2000 Silverado 5.3 with a flomaster 40 series 1 in 2 out muffler. I know he has a bigger motor but who would win? I remember reading a topic that said don't worry about a ford unless it says lighting or mustang on the side. Who would win has anybody raced a truck like this?

How's it going? First, Ford doesn't have a 5.9 liter, they have a 5.4 (with 300 hp and 360 lb/ft). Second, I would need more information to guess who'd win.... what is each trucks configurations? Reg Cab? Ext Cab? Crew Cab? Shor, Reg., Long bed? Also, gears always help.

we both have extra cabs, my silverado is bone stock so I don't know for sure what the gear ratios are in it, his is also a bone stock, well he told me today(because he just picked it up today form the dealer) that it was a 5.9 360, both 4x4

well lets see my truck tops out at 98, his truck might top out at 109 or something but my truck might walk all over him until 98, and its winter right now up here and the roads arn't all that great so it wouldn't

Would you guys actually race past 95 in a truck?...You can usually tell who won at 45-50

Yeah, they never made a 5.9. In 1999 the 5.4 was only 260hp/360tq. Add that on top he weighs more because Fords do, and you should walk on him pretty easily. I have said before in a different thread I have the same year truck as you and my 5.3 has kicked a brand new ford 5.4's ass.

Ford used to make a 351, but never a 360 that I know of. Dodge had a 360. And if it's a 5.4 with similar gearing, you should walk all over him.

yeah my dad has a 2005 F350 Super Duty and its all stock, But I more then beat him, we have to go up over this steep hill to get home and he was behind me one day I I annilated him up over the hill. But if we was bumper to bumper he would tow me up the hill.

Race him and afterwards remind him Fords are slow. You've got more power and less weight, try to find out the gears.

Is there anywhere on my truck I can find what the gears are? I'm wiating to see him again so I can look under his hood and find out what size the motor is.

The glove box should have some RPO codes. Use the link to the left under resources to find out which gears you have.
