My New 2007 GMC Sierra

Greetings,

I just found this site and thought I would say hi and post a couple pics of my new 2-day old GMC Sierra Crew Cab. It's an SLE-2 with the preferred package, so its almost an SLT, but cheaper :) I got the 5.3 aluminum block with active fuel management, 4 speed auto 3.73, and 4X4. Leather buckets, remote start, power folding heated mirrors, polished wheels and the trailer package.

The dealer is ordering me a Truxedo lo-pro tonneau and they have promised to swap the GY street tires for some Bridgestone Dueler A/T's (My preference).

I'll also post a pic of my trade in, a 2006 F250 6.0L powerstroke XLT Sport with 2" lift and 35's. I did all the work on it, but turned it back to stock for the trade in. I loved it for what it could do, but hated it for a few various reasons as a daily driver. Fuel and maintenance costs pushed me to the dealer to trade and I fell in love with the new GMC. I have owned Fords, Dodges, but mostly GMCs and some Chevy's. Seems like GM hit a home run with this new truck!

So far I only have about 60 miles on it and still have to read through the manual to figure everything out. This thing has so many bells and whistles, it make the F250 seem like a covered wagon in comparison. The ride is silky smooth also. I drove an 07 Classic back to back with this one and I really preferred the new truck in almost everyway.

Plan to keep it mostly stock, but I am interested in a few things:

Whos's got the best value on a quality billet grill insert?

Can the stock black door handles be painted, or swapped with the color matched handles off a SLT? Anybody have a dealer price on those if they are available? I see chrome replacements are available already.

I'm also interested in a coil spacer leveling kit, I don't care for the nose down look. Can it be done without a spring compressor (I assume not) and will it require an alignment? I also thought about pulling the rear blocks out, but I haven't looked too close at it yet....I know, lowering a 4X4 seems crazy :driving: LOL

I'll probably get the front windows tinted 35% also.

Hope you don't mind me hanging out here occasionally

Fuel and maintenance costs pushed me to the dealer

Buddy of mine who is a diesel mechanic says the same thing...unless you are towing a bunch, or putting bunches and bunches of miles on a truck, the diesel just doesn't pencil out vs. the gassers.

Beautiful truck. Good luck with it!

yep, I do love diesels; they are amazing tow machines, and the new ones don't have bad manners around town, just overkill for me right now. When I got the F250 diesel, fuel was cheaper than gas (was my whole life!) and then a week or so later, it went through the roof! It's still 40-50 cents more a gallon then diesel here. Add in the fuel additives, $20 oil filters, 15 qts of oil per change and $75 fuel filters once a year, it adds up. Until last fall, I have had company cars for ten years, so my trucks were just my weekend toys. A recent job transfer made my F250 my daily driver......it was fun for awhile, but then we had 17 days straight below freezing and the grumpy truck got grumpier :driving: Even plugged in over night and antigel in the tank, I had several days of gelling up, stalling, rough running, etc. This was with religious use every tank of anti-gel and careful selection of fuel sources. I ended up using diesel 911 and about 2 gallons of additive to get it running.

Might have just been a bad batch of fuel, but it pushed me over the edge! After crunching the numbers, I was estimating just a hair under $1000 more a year to drive the diesel vs. the gas truck. I know the Duramax's are getting pretty decent mileage, but my Ford, even stock, was about 13 average, and with the big tires about 10-11 mpg.

The 0% financing made me break even without the savings per year in fuel and maintenance. Also, my insurance dropped considerably!!! Must be the 5 star crash rating :)

Looks great! As for the rake issue, someone I know who also just bought an '07 Sierra regular cab had the same deal, if a bit more, and didn't like it, and just fixed it with rear shackles. This was in addition to upgraded and slightly wider and shorter tires.

Here's a thread on another board about his truck, and before and after pics with the rear shackles (that were apparently quite easy to do):

Personally, the rake is hardly noticeable to me on the longer models like your crew cab, and if ever loaded it would be level anyway. But dropping the rear a TAD doesn't seem to hurt much, and looks a bit better (with stock wheels and such) than trying to boost the front oddly.

cool, I like the shackle idea......I'll look into that. As soon as I get a chance, I'll load the quad in the back and hook the boat on and see how it sits. I saw another 07 GM with a quad in the back and it didn;t appear to squat a bit. If it's still not level with a load, then its time to drop the rear a bit. Level empty would be good, but I don't want it nose high with a little load on it. Maybe about an inch and a half rake would work....looks like about 4 inches right now :driving:
