I bit the bullet, I bought a Volant...and scoop

So after about 3 days with my new (to me) '02 Tahoe, I bit the bullet and bought a Volant. There was alot of debate about wich one to go with, but when I was farting around on StylinConcepts website I found out Volant Makes an Air Scoop, That sold me... It might be a gimic, but I like the idea of it, I do a fair amount of highway driving and it will make a diff there.

 

Has anyone else done this mod, with the scoop? I would like to hear some feedback on it. I dont want to hear any of the Cold Air Intakes are a gimic posts... I have read them before, and I know on my last tahoe it made a differance.

I got the same setup. I had just the kit for about 10,000 miles and it helped in the higher RPMS especially when towing. MPG wasn't that noticeable. Once I got the RAM scoop there was a significant difference. There was a little more power, it felt like it pulled a little more once above ~35MPH. MPG went up by about 1-2 MPG. I do about 80% highway driving and obvioulsy that's when it has the most effect with the scoop. My IAT's dropped a little too.

IAT = Intake Air Temperature

 

With certain programmers and tuners you can measure IAT on a dyno or when making passes down the strip or street.

Does the air scoop feed the OE box or a Volant supplied box? I was just curious as to where the scoop was plumbed in?

The scoop goes from the pass side tow hook hole up to the Volant air box. It looks like a good idea on paper. We'll see when it comes in.

If you were to remove that base plate that the stock box sits on you would see how easy it is. Underneath that plate is a straight shot down. The Outlaw boxes take advantage of this and have a hole in the bottom of them. I dont like the idea of it personally.
