Transmission Question

Hi all, first post on this site.

 

My wifes 96 Astro van is having a shifting problem. The trany was rebuilt 25K ago. When the van is in Park and I move the shift handle to Reverse, the transmission immediatly shifts into reverse. When I have been driving awhile and attempt to back up, shifting from Drive to Reverse, the transmission takes for about 3-4 seconds to shift after I move the shifter handle to the reverse position. Other than that everything is O.K. Is this the beginning of the end for my tranny, or is it something simple?

I am no trans guy but have seen transmissions do this for years and never cause any problems. Maybe one of the Techs will chime in here.
