Transfer case replacement

Last september I was getting a whine from my transfer case because of the old pump rubbing problem and had it rebuilt at a dealer... Two months later I got the same whine. The dealer has since shut its doors so I'm kind of in a bind... Has anyone had any experience with GM concerning this problem because I know it wasn't recalled but they did modify future versions of the case because of the problem. The indian on the phone wouldn't do anything for me because of the milage on my truck but I still think a dealer mis diagnosing a problem and charging me 1200 bucks for nothing is their fault. At this point I am looking at getting a reman and doing it my self to save a buck or two. Is this something I can do in my garage on jackstands or is it more complex than that. If anyone has done it and can describe the basics of what it takes that would be great. Also, if I do get a rem, will it still have the same old pump rubbing problem or do they sell the updated Tcase.
