Gas gauge and check engine light

I have an 05 2500hd wiht the 6.0 and yesterday when I started it my gas gauge was on E when I just filled it up 2 days ago. Turned the engine off and restared and the gauge went to a half a tank and then back to E every few seconds/minute. This morning the gas gauge is doing the same think but now the engine light is on, taking it in Friday, just wondering what might be wrong with it.

I've had the same thing on my '00 1500 for the past few years. I've been told that the problem lies in the sending unit which is integrated into the fuel pump unit in the tank. I always just paid attention to the tripometer and filled up when I had racked up better than 300 miles on a full tank. I figure that's not much work to avoid dropping the tank and replacing a ~$400 unit that'll just break again before I can sell the truck...

You was right mikesbbhd, the dealer just called and said the fuel level sensor was reading a high voltage. Will be picking it up in a little bit.
