The new truck is ordered and I'm in the process of planning the upgrades.

 

I'm planning (3) perf. upgrades.

1- computer related once theirs more choices out there

2- GM Performance Cat back system -----has anyone here seen this or does anyone have it?> Seems nice and the price is right.

3- GM performance Cold Air Intake ------ has anyone here seen this or does anyone have it?

 

Now, onto the fun stuff.

 

I'm in the process of building a truck puter. Basically a full blown PC for the truck with navigation, backup cam, etc etc.

 

My issue is that I dont know where to put it yet. Under the rear seat will be packed with the amp and sub so the computer will have to be located elsewhere. I read somewhere (but can't find the article now) that the new Sierra's that have the 60/40/60 seat have an underseat storage compartment as well as the traditional arm rest storage compartment.

 

Do any of you guys have this? If so, any chance of getting some pictures? How about the dimensions? Would it fit a laptop?

I just installed a CORSA performance exhaust, side exit with twin 4' tubes. The GM system is made by CORSA. I ordered tha Sport model but it also comes in a Touring model. The only difference is the muffler. I will be looking to someone to swap the Spot for the Touring since it is a little louder than I want. However, there is NO resonance in the cab at cruise. You only hear the noise at acceleration. Bill, 2007 Silverado Z71 4X4 LTZ, silver birch.

Bill,

You say the sport is louder than the touring? Im debating if i want to put the GMPP exhaust on my 07. I use my trucks for hunting an most of the time a loud rumbly truck can be heard for miles in the woods...

 

I will probably put the air-intake on at some point... Just got to many other addons that need to get done first, here's my list:

I know Hp Tuners has 07 support.. A couple of the tuners are getting good numbers out of the new 07's.. Custom tune > Predator by the way :crackup:

I have the triple split front seat. You are correct, it does have a storage center beneath the seat and also in the fold down armrest. If you need, I can measure the space and take some pics but I will tell you, you're going to need to be very efficient with the space if you choose to use this section. Stick a Mac Mini in their and be done with it!

That bad eh.. uh oh. Yes, please measure it! Mac mini? I'll keep my HP tablet! lol.

 

I also hear that under the rear seat has less room than the old platform... Seems like I'm going to have trouble getting a decent sized sub box back there.......

->Predator tuner eh.. I've never heard of them. How would you folks rate them?

I took some pics this afternoon while cleaning the truck. I'll try to get out there yet tonight and measure the storage center for you. As for under the rear seat, on an extended cab, yeah, the room sucks. It's going to take a nice custom formed box to make it work. Maybe a JL Stealth Box or something similar that is molded to match the contours. I am not sure what they were thinking. As for the club cab, I hear it's not that bad but can't be certain.

Let me tell you, I think GM forgot that people like to upgrade their sound systems. I replaced all of my factory speakers this weekend and it required more work than any vehicle I have ever owned. Sorry, no pics. I was at a friend's house and it was an impulse buy and installation. I had to fabricate brackets, drill holes, and zip tie my way to victory. I replaced all the factory speakers with Alpine Type-R components (6.5"s and tweeters) up front and Apline Type-S 5.25"s in the rear. The sound is much, much cleaner but could be louder. I'll be amping them as soon as I find a box that fits so I can do the sub at the same time. I'm about to begin looking for an OEM center console to replace my center seat so I can put the amp and sub under there instead of trying to squeeze it under the rear seat. My dogs love the back floor board (You'll notice the ugly rugs in the pics. Those are for the pups).

 

On the amping note, if you haven't seen this, it's an interface for the GM LAN BUS system used on the 2007's stereo. It allows you to keep everything factory (or not) while also supplying to sets of RCA outs for up to two amps to be added. It's very clean and should make for an easy integration. I have on and am just waiting on my chance to use it.

I checked out JLs site, unfortunately their stealth enclosure is designed to replace the factory sub (under the center console) which my truck wont have. I wish the others would be as quick to market as JL (mtx thunderform etc). In retrospect I should have ordered a crew... theirs always next time...

 

As far as the PAC audio device goes, I should order it and do the installation myself rather than pay the stereo shop as it looks like I'm going to have to get them to build a box for under the rear seat. I did find a few places online who are already making custom boxes but none ship to Canada...

 

Can you tell us more about your issues installing the speakers?

If I were to use the PAC wireless device and amped the front speakers, would the door chime etc still work?

Do you have links to the companies that are making boxes already?

 

As far as the speakers are concerned, the fronts weren't that bad relative to the rears but they were a bit of a pain. The fronts and rears both have the speakers mounted in custom molded mounting brackets that take up much more space than those you'll be putting in. If you go to crutchfield.com it will tell you that you'll need to fabricate a mounting bracket for the rears, let's just say that's a very true statement.

What I did was this (Again, sorry no pics. I know they would have helped.):

 

Front:

Here I had to remove the old door speakers and then clip the wire to the old tweeter. You can remove th old tweeter completely but unless you can find a tweeter that'll fit right in you'll just be leaving the old mounting points on the pillars alone anyway. I chose to use Alpine Type-R's which required me to remove the mirror mount covers (little black plastic triangles above the door panel) and cut a 2" hole in them to mount the new tweeters.

 

Next I used the supplied adapter but did have to drill two new holes in order to secure the adapter. I then drilled two holes just wider than the crossover in the door beneath the speaker and placed the crossovers with some felt padding right inside the door panel and secured it well with zip ties.

 

Rear:

 

This was the real b!tch.

 

I took the rear speakers out and used a pneumatic cut off wheel to cut the original speaker free from the outer mounting plate as they are completely molded together. This allowed me to use the original mounting plate rather than having to drill more holes to mount wood or plexi. I then fabricated a steel plate with holes to match the speaker mount points and two more at the top to mount to the plate. The new plate is only needed on the top two mount points on the speaker as the lower two can be screwed diretly into the original mounting plate. I mounted the speaker to the fabricated adapter with nuts, bolts, and lock washers. I next screwed the speaker with the now mounted steel adapter extending from the top to the original mounting plate with self tapping screws. The plate is just ABS plastic but pre-drilling makes a world of difference.

 

All in all it wasn't brain surgery but it was immensely more difficult than just screwing new speakers in for the old as I have done in almost every other car I have owned.

 

Now, for the PAC interface, it retains all current features of your vehicle. Chimes, OnStar, etc. It is basically a low level converter that doesn't require splicing wires. If you can run a power wire and RCAs you are set. The PAC unit even supplies a remote antenna wire to turn you amps on and off with the truck. No need to head to the fuse panel.

Pioneer and JL Audio both make nice shallow subs. I have a friend with a 10" Pioneer Premier in his '06 and he loves it.

Where are you planning on putting the amp? I think I'll probably do a single 10 or 12 with a box providing amp space. There's just no good place to put it with the 40/20/40 seats up front.

 

 

The JL is much more expensive. I can't find where I saw it for sale but I want to say it was in the 300 range. They also only make a 12 and a 13.5 inch. My friend used to install car audio for years and now has another job that affords him some of the nicer things like Harleys, Corvettes, etc. Point is, he's not hurting for cash and knows his way around a sub. He likes the Pioneer, I've heard it and will probably go that route as well. The 10" Pioneer only requires .35 cubic feet at a minimum and the subthump box provides .59

 

I haven't seen any other subs come close to that small of a required enclosure, excpet for the 12" which only requires .50

 

If I find out anything further, I'll let you know as well.

Well, I'm not sure which way I'm going to go with it just yet..

 

It's likely going to be a dual 10" box with a cutout for the amp in the middle.

-Or the second option is a 12" box with an amp rack of sorts. I guess once I figure out where to put the "truckputer" I'll know how many subs I'll be able to fit under the rear. Right now I have a Tablet PC that will fit nicely in the underseat storage (based on the measurments you've provided) but the tablet is only 1Ghz with 256MB RAM. I'm going to add another 256MB to the RAM and re-install the OS from scratch. If I find the tablet PC speedy enough, then I have all of the area under the rear seat available... if not... it's back to the drawing board!

      This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.

      Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉

      Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
