rust under dash

I was cleaning out my floor mats earlier today and when I put them back in I noticed that I have what appears to be rust stains under the dash. I checked both the drivers and passenger sides and the rust stains are present in both areas. I guess that the metal is what helps hold the dash in place. Does anyone else have this problem? Is it something that I should be really concerned about....or is it just cosmetic due to the fact that it is unpainted metal? The truck is a 2004 Z71 with approximately 25,000 miles. Thanks!

I know my 98 had it, i never worried much bc it wasnt alot, it was just light surface rust. I havnt looked under the dash of my '02, but i would asumer it is there.

My '04 has a little under there,even the brake pedal has some!

My 2002 is the same.

Come to think of it, any of the vechicles that I've owned have had this issue. Nothing to worry about in my opinion.

I figured it was not that big a deal....just cosmetic. At least it is under the dash and out of site! Thanks for the responses.

As long as there isn't a water leak anywhere (say below the windshield) then you are all set. That is just normal oxidation due to unpainted steel.

 

BTW, I love Charleston!
