Shift Range Inhibited

So i was out playing in some mud with my 2006 gmc 2500hd duramax slt. I was spinning my tires, the trans appeared to be getting warm. I let the truck cool down, then when i put it in gear it will not do anything but rev up. (maybe move a tiny bit then rev up) (reverse works fine) If i rev up the engine in gear at all, it will say shift range inhibited, then the PRND lights will start flashing and the truck will not move. Any ideas? I tried cycling to the key several times, thinking it was an electronic issue and just needed to be reset. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

thank you in advance.

How hot did you let your trans get? You may have overheated your trans, and that may be the new message that comes at you instead of just an SES light and going into limp-home mode? I'm not sure on these new trucks though. It definitely sounds like your computer says you hurt your transmission though.
