Dual Exhaust For 2000 Silverado

I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 Ext cab short bed with the 4.8L. I'm having a hard time deciding on whether to go true duals, or a catback system. I don't have much money, so price is a big factor, but I want something that is loud, but still with a nice tone. I obviously also want as much performance gain as possible. I have about $500-$600 to spend. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would look into a tune before messing with exhaust because you will need one any way to make the exhaust worth the investment , And a cat back system would be fine, Check out wait4meperformance for the tune and with a cat back 600 may get ya both ..

Get a wait4me tune and a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust.

If you decide to go with 'true' dual exhaust, be aware that you may reduce your low-end torgue if too much back pressure is removed.

I agree with the other posts...if you want performance, go with the tune.

If you want sound improvement, then go with a cat-back system (many to choose from).

On a stock truck, exhaust by itself will not make a noticeable difference in performance. If I were going to spend 500-600 dollars on my truck I would buy a good PCM tune and still have plently left over for a Flowmaster or Magnaflow muffer(s) and have a shop fabricate them.

Catback systems are a waste of money in my opinion. I was able to get my exhaust setup better than most catbacks for a fraction of the price.

What's the Wait4Me tune going for these days? $100 or so?

Get that...Have a local shop do you a catback exhaust for under 200 (my Flowmaster with pipes dumped over the axle on my '92 was $170)...Then take that other $200-$300 you have and go load that pickup down with salisbury steaks!

In my opinion fancy exhaust are a waste of time and money. I have a 40 series 3"

flowmaster with offset inlet/outlet and a short extension to take up the space, stock tail pipe.

It works and sounds great. Although I did wrap a couple 3/8 x 6" springs with machanics

wire around the muffler to reduce the interior droning. The system has been on for three years now with no signs of rust or wear.

I also believe that the cold air intake isn't worth the money, as the stock intake draws cold

air from the fender anyways.

Put your money into a tune and you'll be quite pleased.

Thanks for all the responses.

I'm still a little clueless on what is involved with the Wait4Me tune. What's the process, how much trouble is it, and what will it do to my gas mileage?

Thanks

The W4M tune is easy to do. You go to there website and send Jesse an email. Jesse will reply and you go from there. You tell him what you want such as higher shift points, better gas mileage, more power, ect. I just asked for his basic tune which gave me more power and better mileage. I am getting about 3MPG better plus a good improvement in power. The tow/haul mode is even more fun now! You can ask for a high performance tune or a high mileage tune as well. I just wanted a little of both. I drove to Memphis last weekend which is about 4 hours from me and I got 19mpg. Not too bad for a 4x4 with the 5.3 and oversized tires.
