Automatic Went Out Of Gear While Running?

I have an odd, possibly dangerous problem. We were on our way to Disneyland during Spring Break. We have been driving for about 3 hours and going down a steep grade. I start to accelerate as the road flattens, but no acceleration as I stepped on the gas. It takes a few seconds, but I realize that the indicator for (P R D 3 2 1) was gone! The little line underneath D was not there. Then all my locks pop open as if I had just put the transmission into Park. I start to panic and trying to get into an emergency lane. Then a few seconds later, the indicator line came back, I was able to accelerate again and the door locks, relocked. The rest of the trip was to Disneyland and back home was OK.

Any ideas? Any information and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are several inexspensive DIY models out there that will read and reset the codes. We (CARQUEST) sell one that is about $79.00 and made by Actron. In the case of what you have described, you may be better off taking your truck to a Professional Tech and let him run the diagnostics.

Either way, this is the one of the oddest things I have ever heard.

I've combed the Net(Google) for a similar scenario, but couldn't find any.... I'm tempted to disconnect the battery to try and possibly reset the unit? I've been driving the Yukon now for about 500 miles and everything is OK, but I'm afraid it might happen again on the freeway.

C & A s Dad - Thanks for the info/suggestions.
