Trying To Get A Wait4me Tune...

I have emailed Jesse for the last half year about a tune for my 2006 Silverado 1500 ext. cab w/ 5.3 V8, 3.73 gears, 2 WD, HYBRID ...he didn't have one available until now, and here is the email from him:

Yes we can tune them now. But i cant get the pcms. If i order one, they cost me 200 more than the others!

You would have 3 options,

Send me your pcm and i tune it and ship it back out for $75.

You can buy a replacement computer for 358.10. Fully tuned.

Or, you can purchase EFILive tuning / scanning software from us for 500. and we can email you tunes. It allows you to modify your vehicle also. :tear:

So, what do you all think I should do?? Thanks!

I would get the EFI live. That way if you don't like the tune, he can tweak it and send you another one without any downtime for your truck. Also, you won't have to get the crank relearn done. I presume that with EFI live you can also save your stock tune which is good if you have to get warranty work done.

$358 isn't too bad but you will likely have to get the Crank relearn done (price is all over the place if you read these boards) and if it isn't exacty what you want, you will have to ship it back ($$$ shipping). Plus the hassle of re and re in your truck.

That's coming from a guy who spent $500 CAD on a Westers that had to be sent back 3 times (at $40 bux a pop) to get tweaked. Not criticizing Westers, by the way (great customer service), just stating that, in retrospect, the EFI live would have saved me some money.

Just my $0.02 Good luck. Tunes are a good thing.

I had the same decision to make when we first got our 06. Since I could leave the truck down for a week, I opted to send Jesse the PCM out of my truck. He programmed it and I had it back in and running great in a week. It was the best money I have ever spent on mods for any of my vehicles.

If you can't be without your truck for a week, then you will need to either buy the new PCM, or the EFI live system. If it were me, I would buy the new PCM fully tuned from Jesse. I believe he will buy back your old one. It would be significantly less expensive. Before I sent the old one back, I would run the new PCM for a while to make sure the tune is what I wanted. If not, it could be sent back and the old one reinstalled. Changing out the PCM's is about a 10 minute job, which is nothing. Even if you need to return the new PCM, you will still be money ahead.

Thanks for the replies! Here is another email he sent me this morning:

EFilive would contain everything needed besides a laptop. It is an awesome scan tool also.

I can give you some pointers when you get it. Also you get a free tune from us when you buy it from us.

EFILive has 2 options,

the V1 and V2

V1 does OBD2 cars and trucks. That is 500.

v2 is the latest greatest cable setup. It does obd2 and Can, so it has the ability to do new vehicles. That price is $700. Both are 50.00 off of retail.

Well if you have the money the custom tuner sounds great, however just depends on if you think its necessary or not. If it was me id probably send in mine and park the truck for a week, but i have other options to drive. If you dont i would just send for the new one and send your old one back he will probably give you some money back for it. Some people like keeping the stock one though for when it gets sent to the shop. One question that you should ask is if the email tunes are free if you get the software. From the last email looks like you just get one free one and might have to pay for more. Anyways good luck..

Get EFI Live.. you wont regret it and this is coming from someone who uses hp tuners.. Anytime you feel like changing something on your truck you have the power right there and dont have to wait for a pcm to come in.. Also you can log and then send to Jesse and he can get you even more dialed in.. I would go with V2 also.. Has a ton more features..

Thanks for the replies...I have not done any performance mods to my truck yet...am I better off putting an exhaust on, and some other mod as opposed to the tune for anywhere between $200-700? I just don't know....what kind of performance would I gain from certain mods??

If I would have known he sold EFI live set ups for 500 I would have deffinately bought one. I personally would deffinately go with that, or park the truck for a week to avoid the crank relearn.

I don't think I can park the truck for a week, only other car I have, besides the wife, is a 79 Malibu (show car) and I don't believe that will be happening... decisions decisions...

i jsut ordered my tune from jesse this past weekend. For my 06 it was $258.... $100 more than standard tune becasue of new computer cost. I guess the hybrid must have a even more expensive pcm... ouch! sounds like there worth it tho. I cant wait till i get mine. in the last couple emails i got back from him , he said he is behind 7-10 days right now.
