Engine Hour Meter

04 silverado crew cab without DIC steering wheel controls. After purchasing the truck used I noticed the instrument cluster only had roughly 1 hour on the hourmeter. After a few weeks I'm up over 20, but what is the cause of it getting reset or possible causes? They put a new battery in it and that's all..... The odometer is accurate.

Most likely the cluster was replaced or repair,when the cluster is send out for repairs they usually will send another one thats already been repair as an exchange unit and the current milage will be recorded on the replacement unit by law but the hour meter was most likely not transfere over to the replacement unit.
