Another project

Thought yall might like to see a glimse of another project I'm working on.  This is the only one I've done so far.  If I can get everything like I want it, I plan on doing the 1500's on the door and the Silverado and Chevrolet on the tailgate the same way.

I like the little things you do to your truck Tom! It really makes it different in a subtle way which I think is much classier than big bold stuff.  How did you do the painting exactly?  Just by hand or did you tape it off and spray?

Thanks for the comments Newbie.

As for painting, the little bowtie is only held in with a small amount of glue (or whatever it is they use) so I just popped it out, sprayed some clear primer for platic/rubber on it, then painted it with the red in about 4 or 5 light coats.

The rest of the emblem was a little different.  I sprayed the primer on it, then sprayed the black.  For the red part, I used a small foam brush and just applied it to the top part of the letters.  I've still got to put aother coat on it for it to look right.  Once I get it completely done and the two pieces put back together, I'll spray a couple coats of clear coat on the whole thing.

The painted one is my test piece.  I bought a new emblem from the dealer and once I get it how I want it, I'll paint the rest of the emblems the same way.  I'm not really in a rush to finish this, so it might take me a while to do all of them.  LOL

Hey Guys,

Well after reading everyone's creativeness.. i figured i had better try it :) so i went out to my local canadian tire and picked up some painting supplies..

I m going to see how it turns out after i paint my tow hooks chrome.. They have a chrome paint and once you spray it.. its like instant chrome.. I m going to put a second/third coat on friday and put them back in on sat morning..

I thought i would share a pic of my last creative project...

This is from my 2000 Cavalier Z24.  It was my last car and this is what i did to it before i got rid of it..  It actually looks more complicated than it was..  The hardest part was getting everything out..

I m not going to go like that again for my truck i dont think it would look that great with all that red and black interior..

Good luck with all your projects Tom!!

Tom, you seem to have more projects going on than a 4th grade science class, but your truck just keeps looking better and better.  Your attention to details certainly makes your truck one of the most unique I've seen.  Good job-

Thanks Steve.  Nice touch to the Cavalier.  Some one at work mentioned to me that I should paint some interior stuff too, but I thought that might be a little too much for my interior.  I have the Graphite interior.

Looks nice Tom.  Don't think I'm gonna do it to mine however.  The pewter almost matches the trim pieces, so I'll probably save my money.  My next project is to paint the remainder of the exterior black pieces, and some interior and engine compartment pieces.  Too bad a gallon of paint costs about ?.00 at NAPA.  It's either a gallon of paint for the truck, or the book for my Differential Equations class.  Hmmmmmm! LOL

Hey Tom,

I dont know if you have thought about it.. But i figured i would paint my tow hooks chrome until i had the time to actually get them chromed..

Here's a pic..

They turned out great with 3 coats on them :) When the paint eventually starts to chip and peel i ll sand it down and send it to be chromed..

Here's the prices of the items I'm painting.  I got them from my local dealer, but I don't know if the price is the same at other dealers.

1500 emblems on the doors - ?.10 each

Chevrolet emblem on tailgate - ?.20 each

Silverado emblem on tailgate - ?.40 each

I actually took the one's on my truck off and I'm painting them.  I did buy 1 1500 from the dealer so I could practice and try out some different things on one of the ones that came on my truck.

In '91, Chevrolet made a Sport 4X4 model that had factory black and red 1500's that stick on the truck (not the kind that attatched to the molding like the regular models) like the current ones and I'm not sure of the year, but certain models of the Lumina Mini Van had a black and red Chevrolet that is exactly like the one's on the tailgates (other than the color of course).  I know that for a fact because I just took it off of one in a junkyard last weekend.  I've got it hanging on the wall.  (Those vans also have a nice black and red bowtie on the hood)  I have a part number for them if you would want it.  If they just made a Silverado emblem like that in black and red, it would be alot easier, but more expensive to do it.  LOL
