Info On Headers

I am wanting to find out some info on headers. I have a 03 Crew cab 3500 2wd with dualls and an 8.1, I have a flowmaster, wait 4 me, and volant. I am wanting to get low end torque cause all I do is pull my camper. Some say to go with thorley tri y but they are shorties for the 8.1. from the racing world Eds are good but they are for cars. So I need some help.

About the only game in town is Stainless Works availible through Tbyrne Motorsports. (click on the top sponser ad on the left). They are availiable in three diameters, choose the smallest for stock cam and torque. Expect to spend close to $800 for the parts.

I spoke with raylar, via e-mail and they say the only headers worth buying that they have used are the stainless works

Am I thinking the right way? I am wanting to increase the pulling power ,so are headers the next step or should I do something else. Thanks for the help.

Well the headers will help but for about the same money overall a towing cam like Comp Cams part# 46-530-8 will produce a bigger gain. The stock manifolds aren't the current limiter, the cam is. It's understandable that some people are afraid to or unable to make internal engine mods so if that's the case then go with the headers.

I have looked and can not seem to find what tha stock cam specs are and if it is a flat or roller. Can someone send me in the right direction. If I where to change the cam should I change to rockers to rollers or are they rollers now.

The stock cam is a hydraulic roller. I don't have the duration (think short-lol) but lifts are .466" Int. and .470" Ext. The factory valvetrain is limited to .510" at the valve (not the same as cam accounting for mechanical losses), past that you'll need adjustable rockers. The factory 1.7/1 rockers aren't roller from GM but rollers are availiable from the aftermarket. The rockers work fine in the stock allison rev range but if you're after every last benefit then get the rollers. Also look at Tbryne motorsports 8.1 section, he carries a good selection of 8.1 stuff including Raylar. Raylar is the lone 8.1 specialists. If you do a cam the intake does have to come off for lifter access, it's not like the new small blocks.
