Help With Headers

Well im looking at getting some headers for my truck (details in sig.)

they need to pass DEQ in Oregon

I want them to give my more low end- but not run short on top

Im guessing Long tubes are going to give my more power and that shorties are more expensive than there worth.

i also dont want to spend a ton of money! lol

Ive been looking at Thorley's, Gibson's, and Doug's.

any advice or input would be great!

thanks!

Thorley's are the way my man, Thats where I'm going. They're not cheep, not expensive either, and they come ceramic coated. there are some pics further down the page from 99Silver6.0 of them both out and in his truck. Don't know if they make the same style for your truck...but you can definitely see they are a quality header

If you can find them!! I've been searching and searching and can only come up with shorties for the 02+ 4.8/5.3 trucks! They do make the Tri Y's for 99-01 4.8/5.3's, I'd imagine they fit but im not sure. I just hope I dont have to cheap out and get pacesetters...A lot of the Silverado SS guys run them and are happy, but Im kinda weary.

yeah the 01's fit...you just have to block off the EGR passage...thats what 99silver6.0 told me.

I'll probably cut it off and get it re coated some time but a block off plate is good enough for now.

www.texas-speed.com they have the pacesetter's with no cats for around 350, www.jegs.com they have the dynatech's with high flow cats only a 1200 price tag

I personally would only opt for Pacesetters as a very last resort. You get what you pay for. They use thin steel with a crap ceramic coating, if you opt for the coating. They work, but I'd rather spend an extra $200-300 and get a set of much better quality headers.

Plus they use 1 3/4" primaries. Not so good for the low end performance. I was going for the pacesetters first because of their price and availability, but Jared steered me away fairly quickly. Thorley's Tri-Y's are definitely where its at for Bang-for-buck.

I went with a pair of Gibson's for my 4.3l, and performance-wise, they was a massive improvement between 2500 and 4500, but below that the gain was less significant, though still noticeable. My only problem with them was during installation, when there was some trouble getting the y-pipe to fit. It was about 2 in the morning and I had to take off, so we just sort of ghetto-rigged it (took the pipe off, cut it, threw in another inch or so of pipe my friend had laying around that was the same diameter, and welded it back together).

im going to look more into the thorleys

i want to have good low end power its not a race truck so im not too concerned about huge gains in the high RPM's
