Just For Fun ( Gas Company Test)

Recommended Posts

Just crossed my mind as I always use the cheapest gas I can find. Has anyone ever done a test to see if one company give better MPG than another ? How about the no name gas companies ? And what of these adds from one company to another ( their gas cleans the best ) or what ever .

Actually, since all the gasoline for every company goes through the pipelines, the gasoline itself is the same. The only difference is the additives the company may or may not put in it. There's a term for it, but I saw it on a Discovery documentary a few years ago :chevrolet:

Not sure if there is a big difference in regards to MPG, but I do know GM endorses certain gas brands:

My last 2 GM trucks did not run good on Hess gasoline. I'm not sure what it was about the formulation of that gas, but everytime I used it the MPG's would drop and I would get a noticable loss in power. It took me awhile to figure out it was the gas brand.

Gentlemen,

My fleet manager experience in Phoenix with millions of miles of multiple driver trucks and abusive trailer towing with dino oils changed every 6,000 miles says burn the cheapest gas and do not feel guilty. When an engine (small and big block Chevys and the occasional 460 Ford) required tear down for blown rad hose overheat, all engines in my care were clean as a whistle inside. No combustion deposits or crankcase deposits. 200,000 mile engines were factory clean, no kidding.

The only dirty engine I ever saw had a clogged PCV system, incredible filth.

Spend your money on quality hoses and pcv parts.

I have been running Mobil for the past couple years, but recently changed to Irving about 2 months ago. I've seen a 1MPG increase in average fuel mileage. I'm going to stay with Irving and see if the average holds up over time.

I think the pumps themselves although regulated, are suspect. It seems I have gotten better milage from a "Quiky Mart" (who knows what kind of gas) than a Shell or Exxon. It seems that there is a difference in the actual volumes being metered which could factor in greatly...........

Looking at the list of "top tier" providers, I guess I'm screwed. None of that is available here in Eastern PA, with the exception of an occasional Shell station.
