Powerchoke

I had an F-350 powerchoke turbo diesel king ranch thing try to take me today. Seriously...what does something like that weigh? 7-8000lbs? I took it up to the speed limit and he ended up a ways back. Felt pretty good though I haven't put her down for something like that in a long time. The old girl never backs away from a fight against a ford. :)

Good stuff, but you have to watch some of those diesels. Some will leave a plume of smoke and will be halfway over the horizon :) My old friend moved to Tennessee a few years back and he's in town for a few days, he has a F350 w/ 7.3l, 4x4, lift, big ass tires, there might be another powerchoke thread in here soon :loser:

the 7.3 powerjoke is the only descent diesel engine ford has come out with. the electrical contracting company i work for bought 2 new f-550 bucket trucks last spring, one 4wd and one 2wd, they both have the 6 liter diesel with twin turbos, so far both of the trucks have needed the turbos replaced, radiator went at round 17,000 miles, one had rear main seal leak, after the turbos were replaced it seemed like they lost most of their power, and you cant turn left unless you have lots of room from oncoming traffic because the turbo lag is so bad, if i cruise on the thruway at 65mph the boost gauge sits at round 30lbs of boost hahaha. ford diesels have gone completely downhill since they stopped using the 7.3 liter.

kind of off topic, i've seen a cummins fully gale banks outed and the guy said if he takes the tuner above level 3 it will break the drive shaft, said over 1000 pounds at the year tires in a heartbeat...if there was no durmax i'd snap up a cummins any day screw the powerjoke, its weak, noisey and ford has to roll out a new model every year because they suck

My first time at the track in the GTO I got absolutely obliterated by a guy in a lifted Dodge oil-burner. Guy ran a low 11 or something...Off the "gas" by what he said. His plate said "700HP", which he also said was "over a year ago and not counting the juice". That truck was nuts.

That was also the first time I ever saw Farm Truck run in person. That truck just brings smiles all around.

powerstroke gained such a huge following back in the day because farmers liked the fact that their truck had the name brand motor as their tractor(international) now a days that loyalty still exists but the truth in the matter is that the duramax, cummins are superior motors, i like diesel rumble but power strokes sound like they are fireing nuts and bolts and my god ford buyers have to be blind to the fact that ford releasing a new motor every year is a sign that powerstrokes blow...yes i can see maybe bumping or lowering a size of a motor at some point as components improve and the movement for cleaner diesel moves on but come on fords on what their 4th maybe 5th motor?!??

i dont think international makes the engine for ford anymore. we have 2 2008 f-550 bucket trucks at work, both weighing in over 17,000 lbs with absolutely nothing in them, (weighed them on the scales when they were new) they haul ass for weighing that much but the power is hit or miss, somedays it seems like it has no balls and then other days it hauls, it gets the worse gas mileage iv ever seen 5.4 mpg overall since new, it has almost 40,000 miles on it now. we havent had very good luck with the new trucks, constantly getting worked on for stupid things like rear main seal leaks, radiator went bad, twin turbos were replaced already.

The 6.4l twin turbo is made by navistar. The new 6.7l single turbo power stroke is made in house by Ford. Not sure if that's good or bad.

We have at work over 100 ford bucket trucks (Local Cable Company) with years of 03-09, they are the biggest piece of junk I have ever seen. Mine has 106,000 miles and so far it has two set's of heads, 5-EGR's,and two turbos' replaced. This doesn't account for all the other repair's that was needed.

When you are on a first name basis with the service manager at Dale Jarret Ford and he buys you lunch at their DJ's Diner, you know it can't be good. We keep spare trucks over there to swap guys out from one truck into another.

+1 to that :) hahaha sounds all too familiar, we have had better luck with the isuzu NQR bucket trucks that we have had since 2003, when we first got the truck brand new it seemed like it had all kinds of power, then after ford had to replace the twin turbos it seemed like all the power was gone most of the time.
