Upping To 285's/torsion Key

Hey all... i'm new to the board. I've got a 1999 silverado ext cab z71 with 265 75r16 BFG Land Terrains on it. Within the next week, i plan on getting some BFG all terrain 285's and also getting some torsion keys installed. I am assuming that these tires will fit on this truck with no rubbing? With the torsion keys installed, will the front of the truck be noticeable higher than the back or is it more of a leveled look? I've seen a lot of trucks where the front is a lot higher but not sure if this is the same type of lifting or not. Also, can the torsion keys be installed at a dealership? thanks for the help in advance

dealership will turn the bolts on the keys you have now if you ask nicely. if you want a level look its only 1.5 inches you'll have to get.well for my 15OO thats what it was. I bought the ford keys and cranked the bolts up but havent got bigger tires yet just the 265/ 75 r16 same as you got but i have goodyear ltd or something like that. as for trucks higher in the front they prolly had lifted the rear with blocks which don't do anything for cargo capacity.... and they had stuff in the bed..ive got leafs added to mine and my truck sits 1/16 of an inch higher in the back so it looks level and when i fill it up with furniture and stuff it doesnt sag. If you see people saggin maybe they should add bags or air shocks.

In my opinion, you don't need new torsion keys.

 

I put 285's on a couple of trucks, and they fit fine with just cranking the bars a turn or two.

I've heard that just cranking them is bad for the front end.... ? Will the 285's fit w/o any cranking or keys?

You should be fine with either new torsion keys or a simple t-bar crank. I have several friends who have done the exact same thing. One thing to keep in mind however is that the factory ride will most likely be altered especially as you increase the front end higher and higher. Often in order to retain factory ride after installing new keys, a newer, longer front pair of shocks are required to make up for lost suspension travel. Hope this hopes, you'll be impressed with the stance of your ride after the 285's. They will set the truck off.

thanks for the info everyone... If i go for it, where would i buy some of the ford keys? My tires are arriving Monday, can i go ahead and get them put on or should i wait until i get the keys in case they dont fit?

The tires will fit as long as they're going on wheels that are factory, or wheels that have the factory offsset.

 

You probably won't even have to crank the bars...Just trim a bit of the valance.

if you check out the darkroom theres a guy that just put 285's on his silverado with... Zero trimming, and no torsion bar adjustments... and i've turned mine just to level my truck, with plenty of the bolt still usable, so i wouldn't waste your money on the new keys but thats just my .02

i see i see... well i'm gonna get mine put on monday so hopefully they will fit! wish me luck
