Exhaust Questions

Ok, on my tahoe, I want a nice throaty sound. Whens its idling, I want to hear the exhaust, but at a moderate level. When I get on it, or drop it to 1st, I want to really hear it. I'm only looking at replacing the muffler and tips. Any advice? I've been researching and searching and I'm still not sure what to do. I also don't want to spend more than $120. I've got the vortec 5.7

get a magnaflow in satin stainless.. none of them are over 100 bucks @ hottExhaust.com.. or you could try tbyrne motorsports (shameless plug.. haha)

1) measure your factory muffler's size/specs: Height x Width x Length, in/outlet diameters, round v/s oval.

2) goto magnaflow's website & find their model that best matches your muffler size/specs

3) the exact match will give deep, rich sound over stock, but nothing obnoxious

4) need more? decreasing the size of the muffler, increases the volume (see Less Muffle) though i would decrease diameter & not length... i've always understood length gives it that quality low note.

5) buy you a nice chrome tip from anywhere!!!

That is good information.

Since you live in Wisconsin you might want to consider buying a polished Stainless Steel tip instead of chrome though. Chrome tips do not last very long in northern winters where the constant road salt and moisture from the snow will cause them to rust really fast.

Good luck.

Get a Dynomax Bullet. It's loud as hell, has a nice deep tone, and doesn't drone at all. I ordered mine from JEGS and had it and a chrome tip welded on at a local exhaust shop for about $160 total.

You can hear a sound clip by clicking on the link in my sig... just don't take it too seriously, it sounds a lot better in person.

I'm with MotoMedic. I replaced the muffler only with a Magnaflow. You can hear it when getting on it, but nice and quiet when cruising down the highway.

I'm probably gonna go with the super bullet. Its 53 bucks and that includes shipping. Also, I can not find a sound clip that features the magnaflow and a 5.7. As for flowmasters, I hear they are too restrictive. I am not looking at losing any low-end so it "sounds cool"

The bullets do sound good, but I went with an SLP loudmouth on my camaro and it sounded wicked! Everyone complimented me on it being a unique sound not heard much in my neck of the woods.

You're not losing low-end with a Flowmaster. A restrictive muffler will cost you up high, not down low. If you went wide open you would be losing low-end.

My dad used accelerator brand mufflers and has a nice idle and a noticeable rumble at takeoff. I also recommend rhinos. He has a 95 with a 5.7.
