Best Way To Paint The Bowtie

Recommended Posts

The Gold on my Bowtie on my 04 has gone to crap, and I'm too cheap to want to buy a replacement, and think painint myine some other color would be cool and stand out in a crowd. What is the best way to go about it?

How do you prep it and what kind of paint do you use?

Maybe some pics of the different ways people have done this?

Thanks

I did my front and rear recently. What I did was sand from 220 to 400 and then paint with Duplicolor rattle can paint. After the paint dried 12 hours, I sprayed 6 coats of clear. Not necessary, but the more clear, the more you can wetsand. I let that dry 24 hours and then wetsanded with 1500 and 2000. If you have a lot of orange peel, you can start with 1200. After that, it will be hazy and need to be cut and polished. I used Meguiars M83 and then M80 (professional lines available at a good parts store) with my DA. You can use ScratchX and then a good polishing compund if you don't have these products.

Cool, I didn't know if people were painting this for the inside or outside of the clear bowtie. Sounds like I just need to get some paint, and I'm good to goo on the other stuff.

i think you will want to sand the plastic, because as far as I can tell the pice of plastic behaind the clear plastic is not quite the same shape. ie the black plastic behind the clear plastic is almost flat.

I don't think the older models (up to 07 NNBS) have the same type of bowtie as the 07's and 08's. The new ones are plastic on the back and do not have obvious foil or anything. You have to sand the front as doing the back will do nothing.

I don't have any dead on pics with the bowtie and have yet to install the back. I'll put some up tomorrow if I can.
